Dorothy L. Prout

Brunswick-Dorothy L. Prout, 94, of the Abbagaddassett Rd. Bowdoinham passed into the presence of her savior on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Parkview Hospital with the family present.

She born on April 20, 1914 the daughter of Clifton and Maude Rice. Dot attended South Portland Schools and graduated from high school in 1933.

Dot was a star basketball player all through high school. Dot married the late Harry E. Prout on January 1, 1937. Harry and Dot owned and Operated Merrymeeting Gardens where many kids in this area worked for Dot picking peas for many years. Dot loved children and served in a couple local churches in various ways including; Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and several children’s groups such as Wirly Birds and Pioneer Girls. She also served as camp councilor with Camp Good News and loved to tell kids about Gods love. Dot also loved her flower garden and feeding and watching the birds, knitting crewel, quilt making, and especially 9:30am am coffee times with family for many years.

Dot was predeceased by her husband Harry Prout, sister Eva Garsoe and brother Meldon Rice.

She is survived by her sons Harry C. “Buster” Prout and his wife Carol and David Prout and his wife Polly all of Bowdoinham, sister Eleanore MacPhee of South Portland, grandchildren Barbara Harrison of Denver, Colorado, Ruth Dickey of Papua, New Guinea, and Ryan Prout of Raymond, New Hampshire, great grandchildren Lilyanna and Hannah Dickey, several nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by her family and so many devoted friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, December 1st from 3 to 6pm at Kincer Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 2nd at 10am also at the funeral home.

Following the service family and friends are invited the farm house on Abbagaddassett Rd.
