Burt Batty

Richmond-Burt Batty, 67, of Richmond ME, is free, once again, to sail the seas. Burt died at home on August 8, 2009 from the effects of a brain tumor.

He was born in New Bedford, MA. to Norris and Jeannette Batty.

After earning his Masters at Ball State Univ, he worked as a college administrator from Illinois to Maine, creatively aiding students through is work in financial aid. Sailing, however, was his passion. His 2007 transatlantic sail was the culmination of a 20 year dream which left him with great memories.

Burt moved to Richmond with his wife Judy, in 2004 and discovered the joy of a great town. He served as Selectman and was proud to be part of Richmond's continued growth. Judy, their children Paul and Michelle, and son-in-law Bill, will miss his humor and their days on the ocean with Burt at the helm of "Seaglass".

An informal celebration of life will be held on Mon. 8/10, 5 PM at Nellie's Church - 1 Spruce Street, in Richmond.

Donations may be made to the Richmond Library building fund. 86 Main street, Richmond Maine 04357.
