Carol E. Thurlow
Augusta-Carol E. Thurlow, 42, formerly of Richmond passed away on Dec 7, 2010 in Augusta.
She was born on October 21, 1968 in Bath the daughter of Paul and Caroline Thurlow.
Carol was a member of the Capital Club House in Augusta.
She enjoyed her niece and nephew. Carol also enjoyed going to the Capital Club House, time spent with family and friends
Carol was predeceased by her mother Caroline E. Thurlow.
She is survived by her father Paul Thurlow, sister Susan Thurlow, niece Kalah Patterson, and nephew Jason Patterson.
A graveside service will take place in the spring.

Albert R. May
Richmond-Albert R. May, 85, of the Parks Rd. in Richmond died November 30, 2010 after a short illness at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.
He was born in Oxford on March 13, 1925 the son of Ernest and MaryAnn (Flether) May.
Through the years Al worked for Bath Iron Works, Hazzard Shoe, Gardiner Shoe and Etonic Shoe. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Al was a member of the Richmond American Legion. He was also a member of the past member of the Masons, Grange, Fire Department and Odd Fellows.
He enjoyed four wheeling, going to the waterfront to see all the local people, camping and especially spending time with his family.
Al was predeceased by his parents, wife Helen “Pat” Hinkley May, daughter Lorna Lee Arnott, sister Pauline Greene, brother Frank May, and an aunt Adeline May. He is survived by daughters April May of Richmond, Alicia Lachance and husband Mike and their daughter Kelsey of Richmond, son Ernest May and wife Bea of Toms River, NJ., son Gary May and wife Soung of Lakewood, NJ., brothers George May and companion Perlene of South Paris, Robert May and wife Millie of Norway, Rodney May of Hopewell, NJ., sister Elinor Jache of Claremont, NH., 14 grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
There will be a graveside service in the May, 2011.
Special thanks to son-in-law Mike, granddaughter Kelsey and all the people that cared for Al during his time of need.

Gloria Brown
Gloria Jean Rolfe Brown-- 73 of Sebago, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Bridgton Nursing Home.
She was born on December 23, 1937 the daughter of Jordan & Julia Rolfe.
She was a member So. Bridgton Congregational Church where she held the position of Treasurer for several years. She was also a member of the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine.
Gloria enjoyed doing Crossword puzzles, planting, caring for her flowers and especially time spent with her grandchildren. She loved Bluegrass music and spent many weekends, in season, attending bluegrass festivals and private picking parties. She also looked forward to family get gatherings and reunions.
She worked for many years as a certified nurse's aide at Fryeburg Health Care Center. She held several other temporary employments, finally retiring from RTS packaging after six years in 2001.
Gloria was predeceased by son James, her parents Jordan & Julia Rolfe and a sister Pheobe.
She is survived by her husband Clayton of 54 years of Sebago, Maine, children Clayton (Skip) II of Sebago, Robert of South Portland, Trina of Bowdoin, Billy of E Baldwin and his wife Missy. She is also survived by her sisters, Elva, Arleen, Nancy, Linda, Clara, two brothers Wesley and Michael, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren..
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at 12pm with services at 1pm at the So. Bridgton Congregational Church on Fosterville Rd in S. Bridgton off Route 107, with immediate burial to follow at the Steep Falls Cemetery on Route 113 in Steep Falls, Maine.

GARDINER -- Marion A. "Mattie" Truman, age 76, of Gardiner, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, with daughter Cathy and husband Paul Barrett Jr. by her side at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. Marion was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Bridgton, the daughter of Sherlock D. and Erva L. (Rice) Truman. Marion was a homemaker, enjoyed working on puzzles, ordering from catalogs and especially playing bingo.
She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Carol Lee; a son Russell I; two sisters, Bertha L. Veniot and Elsie G. Elliott; and one brother, Everett G. Truman.
Surviving are her daughters Cathy L. and husband Paul Barrett Jr. of Gardiner, Caren L. and husband Glendon Ellis of Pittston, Rhonda and husband Rick Bonenfant of Farmingdale, and Cynthia and husband Wayne Draper of Pittston; brothers Howard B. and wife Ellen Truman of Gardiner, Albert E. and wife Tekla Truman of Gardiner, and Robert D. and wife Marie Truman of South Gardiner; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bowdoinham-Ruth G. Dodge, 91, died on Thursday, 11/18/10 at Winship Green, Bath, ME
She was born on 5/22/1919 the daughter of John & Ruth Gallagher, Sr.
Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters, Grange, and P.T.A.
She enjoyed Reading, Crossword Puzzles, Nascar, Boston Celtics, and a lifelong fan of Boston Red Sox, and also enjoyed spending time with family.
Ruth worked as Secretary of the Main Street Garage, Bowdoinham, ME; Proprietor of Bowdoinham Grain Store; Bookkeeper for J.E. Davis/Canterbury where she retired at age 72.
She was predeceased by her husband Elmer B. Dodge, daughter Judith Dodge, Brothers Robert and John Gallagher, Jr.
She is survived by her son Alan Dodge and wife Pat of Richmond, Daughter Helen and Husband Guy Brawn of Bowdoinham, Sister Helen Goff of Muskogee, OK, Grandchildren Andrew, Ruth Ann and Kathryn Dodge, and Darren and Jennifer Brawn, several Great Grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, at the Bay view Cemetery, Bowdoinham, ME at 12:45pm.

Mabel F. Beals Leonard
Richmond-Mabel F. Beals Leonard passed on to her Lord Friday, November 12, 2010 at 1:45pm surrounded by her family.
She was born in Topsham on June 13, 1923 to Edward & Ruth Beals who predeceased her.
She married her sweetheart Edward Leonard (Jr) on November 27, 1942. His life was cut short after 21 years of marriage. They had four children together. Terry and Michael have already passed on. She was also predeceased by three brothers and two sisters; Harry Beals, Henry Beals, Charles Beals, Beatrice Mulldune and Marian Carter and her grandson David Minot. She is survived by her sister Freda Pottle of Freeport, a son Richard Leonard of Richmond, a daughter Maylee Dyer of Litchfield, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild Mason Leigh Keys of Springfield MO.
She worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II and was a picker at Prout’s garden in Bowdoinham. She became a CNA and worked at the local hospitals and nursing homes. She also worked at Pejepscot Paper Mill and L.L. Bean Manufacturing. She retired from L.L. Bean in 1985.
She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Topsham and the Brunswick Nazarene Church. At the Nazarene Church she sang in the choir, sorted Sunday school papers, cleaned the church and made sure to give everyone a hug. She was president and past president of the Pythian Sisters in Brunswick. She had lived in the Senior Citizen Housing on Kimball Street in Richmond for 31 years. She helped many of her neighbors there by transporting them, cleaning off their cars, and shoveling the walkways. Her favorite thing to do there was to sit in the grass and find as many four leaf clovers as she could. She would also go to the Railway Café as often as she could even if it was just to sit and drink tea. She loved to make the people there laugh and would always hand out free hugs.
There will be a memorial visitation at Kincer Funeral home in Richmond Tuesday November 16th from 4-7pm. Interment will be at Rogers Cemetery in Topsham on Wednesday November 17th at 10am. Pastor Bob Dyer will be giving the interment service. There will be a reception following interment at the Richmond Grange hall. Douglas Harlan Harrington Sr.
Dresden-Douglas H. Harrington Sr., 78, of the Blinn Hill Rd. passed away on Nov. 7, 2010 at Winship Green Nursing Home after a short Illness.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1932 in Dexter the son of Harlan and Merle (Jellison) Harrington.
Douglas was a truck driver most of his life, employed by Old Tavern for many years and West Lynn Creamery. He was known as a true friend to the farmers. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Beatrice Ann (Chamberlain) Harrington of the Schofield House in Brunswick, sons Douglas Harrington Jr., and his wife Louise of Dresden, Dwight Harrington and wife Lorna of Alna, sister Elizabeth Hanson and her husband Albert of Embden, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Leesa Andersen
Leesa Andersen (Snow) passed away Nov. 2, 2010 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick as the result of complications from chemotherapy.
Leesa was born in WA and moved to Maine in her teens. She was a beautiful person to all who knew her. She was a top performer in bank retail management for many years. She received TD Bank's most prestigious awards including the lifetime Vision in Action award. Leesa loved the beach, the outdoors, gardening, and boating with her husband and family on the Maine coast.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Jeff, daughters Jaime and Megan, son Ryan and fiancée Socheata, grandson Bhodi and many extended family members and legions of friends.
Services will be private. There will be a celebration of Leesa's life in Harpswell next spring. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established for her grandson Bhodi Andersen: TD Bank, 10 Tibbetts Dr., Brunswick, ME 04111, att: Ruth Larley.

George “Pop” W. Garneau
Richmond-George W. Garneau, 89, of Church St. died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.
He was born on February 22, 1921 in Woonsocket, R.I. the son of Adelard and Florida (Godin) Garneau.
George worked for Draper Corp. as a Cast Iron Worker for over thirty years, retiring in the late fifties.
He was a past member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Richmond.
Everyone in town new George from keeping the town clean at the local baseball field and other areas around the town.
He enjoyed fishing, watching stock car racing and being with family.
George was predeceased by his wife Rita Anderson Garneau, son’s William and Jerry Garneay, 8 brothers and one sister. He is survived by his daughters Theresa Parlin and her husband Silas of Richmond, Rose Deloge of Woonsocket, Helen Jacob and sister Florence Frankhart, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and recently was blessed with a fifth generation in the family.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, October 30th from 2 to 4pm at the funeral home with a funeral service being held at 3pm with Angela Boivin officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, November 1st at 1pm at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery Chapel in Bellingham, Massachusetts.

LeRoy Andrew Morton
Hallowell-LeRoy Andrew Morton Sr., 80, of the Foye Rd. passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on April 22, 1930 in Oakfield, Maine the son of Elijah and Charlotte (Jones) Morton.
Leroy married his beloved wife Johanna Tuttle of 59 years on Oct. 6, 1951.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in the Korean War.
Through the years he worked for the Hallowell Police, Moschers Saw Mill, Lipman & Hillcrest and retired from Cives Steel after many years in 1993. LeRoy was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 132 in Richmond and also a member of the Mic-Mac Indians. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fixing things, family summers at Cobbosse Lake and day trips.
LeRoy was predeceased by his parents ,eight siblings and a grandchild Lisa Bartlett. He is survived by wife Johanna Morton of Hallowell, One brother Gilbert Morton of Tennesee, children Sydney and her husband Norman Sirois Sr. of Lebanon, Cheryl and her husband John Bartlett of Eliot, Dianne and her husband Carroll Whitten of Manchester, LeRoy Jr. and his wife Deborah Morton of Hallowell, Sandra and her husband Mark Christie of Dexter, Ronda and her husband Duane Mason of Whitefield, "papa's pride" 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Joanne Judish
Bath-Joanne Judish, 69, died October 17, 2010 at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick
She was born July 30, 1941 to Clinton and Alma Strout.
In recent years she reconnected with classmates from the Woolwich one room schoolhouse, and she attended some of the monthly reunions.
She enjoyed spending time with family. Her grandsons were a great joy to her and she attended all of their extracurricular activities. She loved traveling and spent time in Holland, England and Italy. She also took a trip across the United States in 2003 visiting family in Colorado, Oregon and Florida. She enjoyed plays and other live entertainment. She was a voracious reader.
She worked as a caregiver in the mid-coast area for many years.
Joanne was predeceased by her father Clinton Strout in 1952, her mother Alma Strout in 1998, her husband Joseph Judish in 2002 and her sister, Sandra Flaherty in 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Willard and husband Jon Willard of Waterboro, ME , son Jack Judish of Oregon, Daughter Caroline McKale and husband Michael McKale of Florida, Daughter Tara Judish of Colorado, and grandchildren Nickolaus Willard and Curtis Willard of Waterboro, ME., brother Clinton Strout and his wife Sandra Johnson of Falmouth, ME., several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will be having a private service at the request of the deceased.

Pearl M. Howard
Richmond - Pearl M. Howard, 89, of Richmond passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Residence at Gray Birch in Augusta.
The only daughter of Anna (Fugman) and Charles Soder, Pearl was born in North Haledon, N.J. in 1921 where she attended the Memorial School and graduated from Hawthorne High School and secretarial college. After marrying her childhood sweetheart Roy in 1942 she worked during World War II at Wright Paterson Aeronautics and later at the New Jersey Bank in Paterson, N.J., taught Sunday School and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
In 1972 Pearl and Roy moved to Sangerville, Maine. There she and Roy operated an 85 acre farm where she enjoyed tending a large garden, canning fruits and vegetables, and was an accomplished seamstress and needle worker.
Pearl’s parents and Roy, her beloved husband of 61 years, predeceased her. She is survived by her devoted son James and his wife Denise of Concord, NH; loving daughter Janis and husband Wesley Wharff of Richmond; five grandchildren, Heidi and husband Ron Small of Richmond, Hillary and husband Ben Goodall of Litchfield, James Howard Jr and wife Annie of Philadelphia, Pa, Bonnie Howard of Nashua, N.H. and Alfred Howard of Boston, Ma.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life and memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at 1pm at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St, Richmond. Kincer is also in charge of Funeral arrangements. A committal to Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, N.J. is planned for later in 2010.

Horace N. “Bud” Wallace, Sr.
Bowdoinham-Horace N. Wallace, Sr., 75, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at his home on the Ridge Road in Bowdoinham.
Horace was born December 12, 1934 at Sebasco Estates, Maine, the eldest child of Ruby Smith and Horace E. Wallace.
Horace began working at an early age, hauling traps for his Uncle Johnny Wallace. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He worked at BIW, ran his own fish market, worked in bridge construction, and for forty years worked as a wood floor installer and finisher, owning his own company. He was noted for his careful workmanship and honest dealings.
Horace was a member and Past Master of the Solar Lodge in Bath.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering, playing music with "the other Bud" Warner at Hill House Assisted Living, and wandering the halls and wards at Togus VA, playing his mandolin. Not having gone far in school, he took pleasure in learning in his own schoolhouse, where an inscription noted, "Horace is the teacher's pet".
Horace is survived by his companion, Judy Gray, of Bowdoinham; his daughter, Cheryl Garnett and her husband, Dave, of Bath; his sister Betty Reed, and her husband Pete, of Woolwich; his brother, Roland Wallace, of Florida; his brother Chris Wallace and companion, Juanita Haines, of Bethel; a son, John Wallace, of Florida; and Judy's children: Holly Edgecomb and her husband, Bruce, of Bowdoinham; Jenny Gray of Wiscasset; and Bill Gray and his wife, Kate, of Bowdoinham. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grand children. He was predeceased by three brothers: Elisha, Philip and Graden; and by his son, Horace Neal Wallace, Jr.
On the Sunday before his death, friends and family joined to celebrate Bud's life, to feast on lobster, listen to great music and say goodbye.

Wiscasset-Gwendolyn F. Dowling, 98, of the Bradford Rd. died on September 30, 2010 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta.
She was born September 10, 1912 in Eustis Maine the daughter of Alphonse and Ida Dion.
Gwen enjoyed pastry cooking, animals, sewing, woodworking and working in garden.
She worked as a pastry cook at the Dodge Inn for over 25 years and later for the Cheechako Inn for many years.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband Joseph Dowling, sons Theodore Dowling, James Dowling, son-in-law Ron Demeny. She is survived by Natalie Demeny of Wiscasset, Jane Oaks and husband Larry of Boothbay, Donna Peddle and husband Duncan of Topsham, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 1pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.

Betty J. Webster
Richmond-Betty J. Webster, 74, of Front St. passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2010 at her home.
She was born on March 21, 1936 in Norfolk Va., the daughter of William and Mary Overton.
Betty worked for 28 years for Shulman’s Mens Clothing in Norfolk.
She was a longtime member of the Shepherd of Faith Church in Richmond. For many years she worked in the food pantry of the church with Betty MacKenzie.
Betty was predeceased by her parents and a sister Alice Olson. She is survived by her daughter Debra Brezler and her husband David of Richmond, grandchildren Dana Powell, Andre’ Brezler, Jason Brezler, Teresa Little, great grandchildren Kirsten, Caleb, Lillian, Serenity, and Jack Brezler, Jared, Candice and Avery Powell, Connie and Arnold Little, Trevon and Raquel McKenzie.

Elisabeth Bongers Umberhind
Richmond-Elisabeth Bongers Umberhind, 88, of the Alexander-Reed Rd died IN FALMOUTH on Sunday, September 12, 2010 after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Berlin, Germany the daughter OF Maria and Adalbert Muëller. Elisabeth was educated in Berlin, while in high school Elisabeth danced in the opening ceremonies of the 1936 Olympic Games. After finishing high school in 1938 she studied ART IN Berlin, Munich and Dresden WITH A FOCUS ON SCULPTURE.
Elisabeth married the painter Siegfried Bongers in 1948 in Munich where they gave birth to their son Michael in 1950. She and Siegfried divorced IN 1955. In 1972 Elisabeth TRAVELED TO RICHMOND TO VISIT A UKRANIAN PAINTER FRIEND WHO HAD COME TO MAINE AFTER RETIREMENT. DURING THAT VISIT ELISABETH WAS INTRODUCED TO Wallace Umberhind, THEN A RICHMOND BACHELOR DAIRY FARMER. WALLACE AND ELISABETH MARRIED IN 1974 AND LIVED TOGETHER HAPPILY FOR SEVERAL DECADES IN THE HOME WALLACE BUILT THEM AFTER SELLING HIS DAIRY HERD.
ONCE SETTLED IN RICHMOND, ELISABETH CONTINUED TO SCULPT. SHE WORKED IN SEVERAL MEDIUMS BUT WAS PARTICULARLY DRAWN TO WOOD. WALLACE, WHO BY THEN WAS WORKING A SAWMILL HE BUILT, KEPT HER WELL SUPPLIED. ELIZABETH exhibited her work at several galleries throughout Maine. Doris Ann Gleason
Dresden-Doris A. Gleason, 74, of the Indian Rd. passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 of Alzheimers Disease at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta.
Doris was born Dec. 15, 1935 in Gardiner the daughter of Fred and Olive Randall. She grew up in Whitefield and was the next to the youngest of nine children. She attended Wiscasset High School.
In the 60’s she worked at Health Tex in Farmingdale and raised six children all on her own. Starting in 1966 she worked at Green Point Farms in Dresden until 1999 when she and her husband retired and the farmland went to the Maine Fish and Wildlife Department to be used as a game management area.
Survivors include her husband Robert Gleason of Dresden they had been together for 45 years, son’s Leroy Murphy of Augusta, John Murphy of Florida, Peter Murphy of Vassalboro, Timothy Murphy of Benton, daughters Debra Hinckley of Vassalboro, Patricia Donnell of Pittston, sisters Anita Grant of Westford, Massachusetts, Shirley Peterson of East Swanzy, New Hampshire and eight grandchildren.
At Doris’s request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, September 23rd at 10am at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Dresden.

Clive H. Douglas
Harpswell-Clive H. Douglas, 74, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
He was born on Nov. 30. 1935 in Portland the son of David W. and Sarah Simpson Douglas and graduated from Brunswick High School class of 1955. He lived in Brunswick and retired in Harpswell.
He was a member of Durham Friends Meeting, Brunswick Masonic Lodge United AF & AM #8 and the Merriconeag Grange.
Clive worked as a first class engineer at Pejepscot Paper for over 29 years and at Bowdoin College as a mechanical coordinator until his retirement in 2004.
He enjoyed games and jaunts with Aunt Bee, playing cribbage, boating, tuna fishing, snowmobiling, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
Clive was known for being loving, kind, gentle and generous. He was a perfect craftsman and had the ability and talent to create and repair anything.
He was predeceased by parents and brother Russell S. Douglas. Clive is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Palmer Douglas of Harpswell, daughters Elaine Buck of Bowdoinham, Carole Bouchard and husband Edward of Bowdoin and son Gregory Douglas and wife Pamela of Harpswell, grandchildren Catherine Preston, Sterling Douglas, Elizabeth Buck, Magean Bouchard, Whitney Boyd, Valarie Buck, Krystal Douglas, great grandchildren Colton Rice, Erin Aulman and Tristan Boyd.
A private family service will take place at the Durham Friends Meeting at 11am on Saturday, September 18th. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, September 18th from 1pm to 4pm at the Brunswick Golf Club, River Rd. Brunswick for anyone who would like to attend.
A special thank you to his nephew, James R. Douglas for the additional 12 years of quality life he gave his Uncle Clive. The family would also like to thank all who loved him and the wonderful care he received at Maine Medical Center.

Kenneth M. Swasey
Dresden-Kenneth Maurice Swasey, 86, of the River Rd. died on September 8, 2010 at Glenridge Nursing Home, Augusta.
He was born on July 12, 1924 the son of Richard and Vera (Brown) Swasey.
Ken was a past member of the local snowmobile and motorcycle clubs.
He enjoyed working in his garden, camping, snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle and especially time spent with his grandchildren.
Ken worked at Brunswick Naval Air Station as an electrician and later on the crash and rescue team at the base for over 25 years. He also worked for Green Point Farm, Goranson’s and as a school bus driver in Wiscasset.
He was predeceased by parents, first wife Arlene Swasey, brothers Walter, Irving, Donny, Robert Jr., sisters Phyllis, Vera and Mary. Ken is survived by his beloved wife Doris Swasey of Dresden, daughters Rebecca Cromwell of Westport, Tamara Swasey-Ballou of Camden, Wanda Nixon of Windsor, step son Dale Hinote of Ohio, brother Richard Swasey of Wayne, sister Barbara Holley of California, half sister Eleanor Rippoll of Florida, grandchildren Anthony, Sara, Ben, Todd, Misti, Nicholas, Taylor, 12 great grandchildren and a 13th due in December.

Xenia Sergeeva
Coopers Mills- Xenia Sergeeva, 93, a long time resident of Richmond, died on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills.
Xenia was born in Belarus on December 12, 1916, the daughter of Fedor and Evfrosinia (Bobrova) Fisko.
Xenia was a lifelong member of the Russian Orthodox Church and was a faithful attendant of St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Church, in Richmond, for many years. She was a Stitcher at Etonic Shoe Factory where she worked for 27 years. Her hobbies included reading and knitting.
Xenia was predeceased by her husband Apollon and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Nina Sergeeva of Richmond.
A funeral service will be held at 12noon on Monday, August 30, 2010 at St. Alexander Nevsky Church, 15 Church St., in Richmond with burial to follow at Richmond, Cemetery.
Joan C. Smith
BRUNSWICK – Joan C. Smith, 78, died on Monday, August 23, 2010, at a Brunswick hospital from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
She was born in Brunswick on August 11, 1932, the second of six children of Maynard and Estelle (Martin) Munsey.
She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1950, and completed the business administration certificate program at Plus-Gray School of Business in 1970. She became a licensed real estate salesperson in the late 1970s, working in real estate and property management in Colorado Springs. She retired in 1995.
She married Michael F. Hurley in 1958 and Warren C. Smith in 1959.
Joan loved to travel and had lived in Italy, Germany, Texas, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Ohio before returning to her hometown of Brunswick just ten days before her death. She was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Roxanne Jones and her husband Donald, of Harpswell, and Joanne C. Eschweiler and her husband Jeff of Indio, Calif.; grandchildren Daniel Eschweiler of Palm Springs, Calif. and Dawn Eschweiler and her fiancé Ed Hodge and their son Ian of Indio, Calif.; two sisters, Dolores Williams of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Elaine Griffin of Columbus, Ohio; and two brothers, Stanley E. Munsey and his wife Lee of Sheffield, Alabama, and Richard B. Munsey and his wife Martha of Brandon, Mississippi.
She was predeceased by a brother, Emery Munsey, in 1995, and her beloved Siamese cat Anthony, in 2007.
Burial will be private at the Varney Cemetery with a memorial service to be held at a future date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Coastal Humane Society, Range Road, Brunswick, ME, 04011.

MELVIN CHARLIE LEWIS, M/Sgt. USAF, Retired
Dresden-Melvin C. Lewis, 84, of River Rd. died on Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Brunswick.
He was born in Gray Maine on November 13, 1925 the son of Earl W. Lewis and Marion Kelly Lewis. Melvin attended Richmond Schools.
Melvin has resided throughout the years in Gray, Randolph, South Gardiner and Dresden.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Air Force, retiring in 1964 after over 20 years of service.
Melvin retired to Dresden, where he and his family made their home.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Augusta.
Melvin is survived by, son Peter J. Lewis, wife Patty Sue of Dresden, daughter Deborah A. Lewis McAllister and husband Jeffrey of West Bath, brothers Wayne P. Lewis of Chesterville , Brother-in law Wendell Hudson of South Gardiner, grandchildren Chelsie I and Kiara E. Lewis of Dresden, Rebekka A. McAllister Jackson, husband Aron Jackson of Charlotte N.C., Justin M. McAllister of Virginia Beach, Va., great grandchildren Alaynah B. Jackson, Tyler R. Jackson both of Charlotte, N.C., many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his wife Verona E. Pinkham Lewis, a sister Nancy M. Lewis Howard, brothers Edward E and Norman C Lewis, half-sister Irene Thrower Hudson, half-brother John W. Thrower and mother-in-law Mildred E. Pinkham and half sister Iva Bromley.
Melvin was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in younger years.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 19th at 10am at the New Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta with full military honors.

Shirley Jean Yeaton
Richmond-Shirley J. Yeaton, beloved mother and wife passed away surrounded by her family after a long illness July 28, 2010 at the age of 74.
She worked for several years at Etonic Shoe, 11 years she and husband Francis owned and operated Richmond Dairy Bar and Shirley really enjoyed being a substitute teacher for Richmond Head Start. Shirley also loved her cats and dogs and particularly family gatherings being one of her greatest joys.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Francis Yeaton of Richmond, brothers Larry Young and wife Rita of Litchfield, Jack Young and wife Delores, and Gary Young both if Richmond, sister Laverne and her husband Roy, sister in-law Martha Young all from Richmond, daughters Vicki of Vassalboro, Karen and husband Richard Taylor Jr. of Litchfield, son Gregory and wife Jeanne of Richmond, grandchildren Angela, Amy, Ronald, Travis, Jesse, Katie-Lynn, Eric, Michael, Pam, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was predeceased by her father Vernon Young, mother Dorothy Skelton Young, brother Kenneth Young Sr., and sister Dorothy Watson.

Andrew Otis Cooper
Farmingdale-Andrew "Andy" Otis Cooper, Sr., 65, of Farmingdale, Maine, passed away quietly with his family by his side on Saturday July 17, 2010 After a long battle with cancer. He is home with the Lord.
Andy was the son of the late Ira Otis Cooper and the late Bessie Robbins Cooper. He was born on May 15, 1945 at the Community Hospital in Castine, Maine.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Woodcock Cooper of Farmingdale; his daughter, Valerie Jean Sprague of Richmond; his son, Andrew Otis Cooper, Jr. of Gardiner; and his three grandchildren: Joshua Andrew Cooper of Augusta, Gavin Cooper Lawson of Richmond, and Wyatt Andrew Cooper of Chelsea. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Clara A. Woodcock of Randolph; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
After many years of employment, Andy retired from the City of Augusta Fire Department in 1986. Until shortly before his death, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Pittston. For some time, he also served as the Assistant Fire Chief and a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Randolph Fire Department.
Andy was a proud Christian man who attended the Pittston Congregational Church for over 20 years. He loved and appreciated the ever-present support of his Christian family. Working at the church suppers with his Christian family brought him much joy.
Andy loved spending time camping, hunting, fishing, and teaching his children and grandchildren how to do fly tying. He also enjoyed going to the coast as frequently as possible with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of the Dresden Masonic Lodge #103 and the Lincoln Chapter R.A.M. #3. Andy was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching the "History Channel." He also very much enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends at the Cohen Center in Hallowell.
A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, July 22nd from 6 to 8pm at Kincer Funeral Home at 130 Pleasant Street Richmond. A graveside service will take place at Maple Grove Annex Cemetery on Windsor Street in Randolph on Friday, July 23rd at 11am, all are welcome.

Jeffrey D. Delano
Dresden-Jeffrey D. Delano, 53 of Dresden passed away on Thursday, July 8th 2010 surrounded by his loving wife and daughter after a courageous, seven year long battle with cancer. Jeffrey was born in Damariscotta on November 7th 1956 to parents Arthur and Madeline Delano. He attended school in Wiscasset, graduating in 1975. He was a Boy Scout leader and loved the outdoors, particularly fishing, grilling & farming. He was employed by BIW for over 30 years as a pipecoverer. Jeffrey was married to Debra L. Delano on December 31st, 1991. He is survived by his loving wife Debra of 18 years, daughter Angelique Delano, grandsons Gavin and Mason Clark all of Alna, step son Jeramey and wife Erin Reed of Wiscasset, son Keith, wife Cindy and grandsons Hunter and Tyler Delano all of Vermont, siblings Arthur Jr, wife Peggy Delano, Robert Delano, Lloyd Delano and companion Toni, Wendall Delano and companion Paula, Richard and wife Karen Delano, Nancy and husband Mylan Morton, Martha Delano, Polly Webber, Linda Delano all of Wiscasset, Dana and wife Bonnie Delano, Peggy and husband Richard Creamer all of Dresden, Dean and wife Nora Delano of San Diego CA and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, Arthur, mother Madeline, brother’s George and Kenny, sister Marjorie. A celebration of life in Jeffrey’s honor will be held for friends and family on Sunday, July 25th 2010 from 1pm to 4pm at the Bath Legion Hall on Congress Ave.
Errol N. Melander
Bowdoinham-Commander Errol N. Melander, United States Navy, retired, died unexpectedly on July 7, 2010 at home in his workshop while listening to talk radio and building bunk beds for his grandchildren. He was seventy-two years young. He was born at Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, 14 May 1938, the son of Ero Konstantine and Francesca Margaret Steiner Melander.
He attended General Artemis Ward Elementary School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and graduated Major Howard Beal High School, also in Shrewsbury, with the class of 1955. He graduated Stockbridge School of Agriculture and the University of Massachusetts, both in Amherst, Mass, with an ABS and BS in Forestry. He also attended Worcester Junior College and George Washington University Graduate School. He was an oarsman in eights and fours in high school and played hockey in college.
During his junior high school through college days, after several years as a paperboy, Errol worked at the famous Spag's Supply in Shrewsbury. During college summers he worked for the United States Forest Service in National Forests in California, Montana, and Washington state. He also took summer employment with the James W. Sewall Company in Old Town.
The Commander, as he was affectionately called by many, attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, being commissioned Ensign, United States Navy, in 1962. He was assigned to the USS Tingey (DD-539), USS Purdy (DD-734), USS Charles Berry (DE-1035), and USS Portland (LSD-35), serving as Damage Control Assistant, Main Propulsion Assistant, Engineer Officer, and Executive Officer. He volunteered for duty in the Republic of Vietnam, as an Advisor to the Vietnamese Navy, serving in Qui Nhon, RVN, during 1966-1967. He attended the U.S. Naval Destroyer School in Newport, the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, VA, and the PCO/PXO School in Newport. He was on the staff of Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force; and Chief Staff Officer, Commander Destroyer Squadron Twenty-Six, "The Mod Squad". His final tour of duty, before retiring, was as Executive Officer at the Recruit Training Command in Orlando, FL.
He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, with Combat V; Navy Achievement Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy "E" Ribbon; Navy Unit commendation; National Defense Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color w/Palm); Republic of Vietnam Unit Citation (Civil Actions Medal, First Class w/Palm).
Errol retired from the U.S. Navy in 1981 as a full commander. He and his family then built a home in Bowdoinham, and he gained employment at Bath Iron Works, Bath, ME, as a Systems Engineer, taking early retirement in 1995. Since, he has devoted his time to his hobbies of building and rehabing post and beam structures and barns, tending a large garden and preserving all sorts of pickles and relishes. He enjoyed giving away fresh vegetables as well as his pickles, relishes, and his famous pesto. "Pop pop" enjoyed woodworking and was kept busy making changing tables, cribs, beds, and desks for his children and grandchildren. He loved working in the woods and cutting firewood, for their wood stove, for many years. He was an avid fan of his children's sports activities and missed very few games and meets as they played soccer, hockey, lacrosse, ran track, dove, and swam, both in high school and college. He took great delight in making critiques of sports coverage in the local newspapers, being on a first name basis with the local sports editors. He also enjoyed writing letters to the editor on subjects that he had strong feelings about.
The Commander was a member of the U.S.Naval Institute. He was secretary for the Coastal Soccer Club for many years. He was on the Topsham and Bowdoinham Recreation Boards, and coached all of his children in the Topsham Youth Soccer Program. He was a member of the Maine Christmas Tree Growers Association, the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine, and the American Tree Farm Association. He was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Brunswick.
Errol was predeceased by his father and mother and by a younger brother, Paul Kenneth Melander.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Patty) of 43 years. He also leaves four children, a son, Dr. Matthew Paul Melander and his wife Rebecca, of Saint Louis, Missouri; a daughter Amy James Melander Campbell and her husband Darin, of Durham, North Carolina; a daughter, Ann Perkins Melander Freeman, Esquire, and her husband Josh, of Portland; and a son, Mark Steiner Melander and his wife, Amanda, of Natick, MA. "Pop pop" had nine grandchildren, Noah Zachary and Chloe' Day Campbell; Francesca Mae and Elsa Ryan Freeman; Willa Stewart, Adelaide Wells and Lucia Errol Melander; and Margaret Patricia and Anneliese Victoria Melander.
A celebration of his life will be held at his home on 92 Fisher Road in Bowdoinham, Maine on Sunday, July 11th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine or the Mt. Ararat Sports Boosters.
Mary Jane “Marie” Noella Morin
Augusta-Mary Jane Noella Morin, 82, passed away on June 18, 2010 at the Maine Veterans' Home after a brief Illness.
Marie was born in Augusta on December 26, 1927 the daughter of Wilfred and Eva (Rousseau) Cormier. Marie attended local Augusta Schools, was a communicant at St. Michael's Parish Church and was a lifelong resident of Augusta. Marie worked in the cafeteria at R.P. Hazzard Company, Shaw's and Maine General Hospital.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, husband Joseph F. Morin, son Joseph Morin, brothers Lionel, Harold and Edmond (Jim) Cormier, daughter Helene Duncan of North Whitefield, son Edmond Morin of Farmingdale, daughter Mary Jane Bishop of Farmingdale and her fiancee' Ronald Croteau of Lewiston, granddaughters Michelle (Duncan) and husband David Shaw of North Whitefield, Shelly Bishop and her Fiancee' Randy Weston of West Gardiner, Erica (Duncan) and husband Adam McLennan of Waldorf MD, Melissa (Morin) and Husband Matthew Brown of Whitinsville MA, great grandchildren Wesley and Walker Dumas of West Gardiner, who visited memere every day, Andrew and Katie Shaw of North Whitefield, sister Helen Boucher of Augusta, several nieces and nephews.

Sandra L. Shockley
Dresden-Sandra L. Shockley, 59, of Morton Rd. died unexpectedly on June 16, 2010 at her home.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1950 in Gardiner the daughter of Richard and Pauline Messer.
Sandra enjoyed knitting, crochetting and especially time spent with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her Mother Pauline Blair, brother Bidwood Messer, sisters Dorothy McKetney and Kim Messer. Sandra is survived by her husband of 34 years Terry Shockley Sr. of Dresden, children Terry Jr. of Litchfield, Kevin Shockley of Palermo, Eric Shockley of Sidney, father Richard Messer Sr. of Augusta, sisters Grace Sidelinger of China, Bonnie Therrien of New Sharon, brothers Richard Messer Jr., of Randolph, William Messer of Gardiner, half brothers Richie Messer of Gardiner, Patrick Alexander of Dresden, half sisters Pauline Alexander of Lewiston, Lynn Alexander of Bowdoinham, Gail Messer of Bowdoinham, Lydia Messer of Readfield, Tina Pelletier of Palermo, Bridgette Messer of Gardiner, Lori Ricean of Windsor, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and several adopted children from the area.

Leatrice “Lee” Gallant
Portland-Leatrice (Lee) Gallant 83, formerly of Richmond died on June 2, 2010.
Leatrice/Lee was born in Bath on December 12, 1926 to the parents of Leonard L. and Alma C. Bishop, growing up on Angel Ave, South Portland, graduating Class of 1943. On December 18, 1943, Lee married John J. Gallant while in college whom she had met @ Willard Beach when John was stationed in Maine. She graduated from Becker Junior College, in 1944, attended University of Michigan receiving her undergraduate degree and her MA from the University of Maine in 1974. Lee was a teacher in Michigan from 1955 to 1966, and Lisbon, ME 1966-1969, teaching grades K though 12, in addition to teaching the visual and hearing impaired in Portland, ME. In 1969 Lee was employed as a Social Worker, and teacher for the WEET program with the State of Maine DHHS, retiring December 1988. While residing in Michigan from 1952-1966, Lee would pack up her four children as soon as school was dismissed in June and off to Maine for their summers. Her children were often taken on “side trips”, or “short cuts” to Gettysburg, NYC, New York Worlds Fair, DC and every historical landmark within a 500 mile radius while on their journey to Maine. Lee was a MENSA with an immeasurable IQ, read a minimum of ten books a week, taught school, cooked gourmet meals every night, her family never knew which country cuisine she was preparing. She was adventuresome, independent, and loved life to fullest. Lee commanded and controlled everything with boundless energy, and her way, and only her way was acceptable. She loved the ocean, theater, movies, swimming, symphony, poetry, ballet, music, lobsters, steamers, champagne, playing bridge and beano, never sleeping…she was truly a night owl. She hated to fly but loved to travel, and managed to get to her desired destinations. Whether it was the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, CA three times, Mardi Gras in New Orleans which she went to three times, every US state except Alaska and Hawaii, the European Continent, visiting 27 countries her first visit (returning to every country several times) including the former Eastern Block countries and Russia the first year after the Cold War ended, Greece, Malta, Turkey, Norway, Sweden, Finland, British Isles, Bermuda, Iceland, Greenland, Mexico, Canada, Panama Canal, Caribbean Islands, the Passion Play in Germany, but mostly her beloved France, her favorite country; she loved all of France….and Paris and Venice were her favorite cities (next to NYC, New Orleans, San Franciso, LA, San Diego, Chicago). Lee loved parties, costume, theme, birthday, and any occasion…didn’t matter as long as people were gathering, and she was arranging the next party. “Things” were never important to Lee, but had houses full of her “treasures” like wrappers from the first piece of gum her children or grandchildren ever chewed, memorabilia from every country and US cities that she visited, resulting in several houses of floor to ceiling books (including every book of her four children), papers, travel books, magazines, family and friend photos. She had life long Willard Square friends, as well as her traveling buddies, Barbara Feltes and Lillian O'Brien. Lee aka Aimee’/Gram loved her five grandchildren JJ, Mark, David, Abigail, and Mollie, taking them on trips to Ireland, France, Spain, as well as a recent trip to the Rose Bowl in 2007. Family and friends were her life, and all were fortunate to be a part of this incredible woman. What a history she created in 83 very short years.
Lee was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Alma Bishop, brother, Leonard L. Bishop, Jr., her husband, John J. Gallant. She is survived by her four children the “4 J's” son John J. Gallant, Jr. and wife, Vera Gallant of Merritt Island, FL and Rockwood, ME; daughter, Jeanne I. Shrum of Portland, ME; son James E. Gallant and wife Ellen of Richmond, ME; and son, Jerold L. Gallant and wife June of Portland and Nobleboro, ME. Grandchildren, John J. Gallant III (JJ) of Revere, MA, Mark Devoe of Portland, ME, David Devoe of Brooklyn, NY (David shared his birthday with Aimee' of 12/12), Abigail R. Gallant of Quincy, MA and Mollie P. Gallant of Brooklyn, NY, sister Carolyn LaChance of Old Orchard Beach, ME. and many nieces and nephews.

Beverly "Nana" R. Lamoreau
Richmond-Beverly R. Lamoreau, 78, of the Carding Machine Rd. Bowdoinham died after a long illness on June 3, 2010 at her daughter’s home.
She was born in Gardiner on May 7, 1932 the daughter of Roy and Ada (Sanborn) Rankins.
Beverly worked for many years in the local shoe shops as well as a C.N.A. at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick.
Beverly was a lifetime member of the Electa Chapter of the Eastern Star in Bowdoinham, Bowdoinham Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the Post 132 Women's Auxiliary in Richmond. She enjoyed playing Bingo, being on her computer and particularly time spent with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parent’s, husband Robert Lamoreau, brother Raymond Rankins, Clifford Rankins, sister Geraldine Tisdale and grandson Daniel Lamoreau.
Bev is survived by her daughter Wanda French and her husband Mike of Richmond, son's Donald Lamoreau and his wife Roberta of Bowdoinham, Mac Lamoreau and his significant other Alyce Graceson of Richmond, Stephen Lamoreau and his wife Jeannene of Bowdoinham, Terry Lamoreau and his wife Cyndi of Bowdoinham, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, June 8th from 4 to 7pm. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 9th at 11am with a burial to follow in the Ridge Cemetery, Bowdoinham. A gathering will follow at 228 Carding Machine Rd. Bowdoinham.

Denise Parker
Bath-Denise Parker , 49, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 with her family by her side.
She was born in Brunswick on January 13, 1961 the daughter of Beverly and John Perkins.
She worked for many years at Eastland Shoe, and CN Brown stores in Lewiston and Bath .
Denise enjoyed doing arts and crafts, watching Nascar, beading and canvassing. She particularly loved her family and spending time with them.
Denise was predeceased by her mother Beverly Johnson, a sister, brother, grandparents, an uncle and cousin.
She is survived by her husband Randall Parker of Bath, son Christopher of Florida, daughter Lisa and husband Dana of Florida, father John “Bud” Perkins of California, step-daughter Sandy Lynn Parker of Connecticut, step son Randy Jr., brothers Dennis Perkins and his wife Cheryl of Bath, Curt Perkins and wife Evandy of Gorham, Michael Perkins of Virginia, sister Deborah Ambrose and husband Steve of Bath, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and her special kittys Lucky and Scrapper.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their loving care.

Laurence A. Bond Jr.
Richmond-Laurence A. Bond Jr., 82, of Parks Road, died on May 7, 2010 at the Togus VA Medical Center Hospice Unit with is family at his side.
He was born in Richmond, Maine July 26, 1927 in the home of his parents, Laurence A. Bond Sr. and Marjorie Maxwell Bond.
He enlisted in the Army in 1945 while in high school and was sent to Europe. He earned the nickname “Timber” by his army buddies due to his home in the Maine woods. During the end of the war, he was assigned to be the personal driver of Army Lieutenant General Daniel Noce, who played a large role in the Nuremberg trials.
After his return from the war, he graduated from Richmond High School in 1947 and then attended Kents Hill School graduating in 1948. He went on to Spades Criminology Academy in New Jersey and after graduating worked for Burns Detective Agency in Boston from 1949 to 1950. He then returned to Maine and married Alice Locke, January 1st, 1952.
Larry started Bond’s Construction Company in the late 1950’s and opened his apple orchard in the early 60’s. He continued running the businesses until he retired at age 80. Many of the homes and businesses in Richmond had their driveways laid, foundations dug, and septic systems put in by Larry.
Larry started Boy Scout Troop 610 in 1954 and at one time had the largest troop in Maine. He was a town constable for many years. He was the Harbor Master for 33 years, retiring from this position in 1990, when his wife passed away. He was on the Richmond Fire Department for over 40 years and was Captain of Engine #1 for 30 years. For over 25 years, Larry enjoyed organizing, shopping for, assembling, and hand delivering Christmas baskets to the less fortunate and elderly in Richmond. He was presented with a special plaque in 1989 by the American Red Cross for donating 10 gallons of blood.
He was a life member and past commander, 1961 and 1965 of the American Legion Post 132. He received the Legionnaire of the year in 1999 and the Humanitarian of the Year Award at the American Legion Department of Maine State Convention of 2006 in Bangor, ME. One of the highlights of his life was being Captain of Post 132 Honor Guard for 50 years, and carrying our National Colors in all parades and competitions until he passed the tradition to his son Gilbert in 1997. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 9, life member of the Forty & Eight, member of the Richmond Enterprise Grange, and maintained a WWII era jeep and trailer that leads all Veterans Day and Memorial Day parades. Veterans who can no longer march in the parades are invited to ride in the jeep or trailer.
His dedication to our country and Town of Richmond has been a large part of his life. His generosity has been shown to local businesses, the town churches, sponsoring Little League and other sports teams, helping the Richmond Historical Society as well as many other selfless acts when he heard the call for assistance. He was presented the Sally Hoyt award as citizen of the year in 2003.
Predeceased By - His parents, wife Alice Locke Bond, who passed on 4/6/1990, and his sister Barbara Bond Allen, who pasted on October 1997.
He is survived by - his daughter Marjorie Poulin and her husband Gary, son’s Gilbert Bond and his wife Sherry and David Bond and his wife Larisa all of Richmond. Grandchildren Chad Austin of San Francisco, Aaron Cunningham, Christina Bond and Benjamin Bond all of Richmond; four great-grand children, Madison, Justice, Dakotta, and Trinity Cunningham all of Richmond. Niece Leone Smets, nephews Larry Smets and Michael Allen. He also leaves long time companion Cecelia Atwood and his right-hand man James Gallagher.
The family wishes to thank the hospice nurses, assistants, and the whole hospice team for their compassionate and heart felt caring of our father and family during this experience. They are angles you see on your way to heaven.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, May 11th from 2-4 and 6-8. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 12th at 10:00am. Following the service a burial with military honors will take place at the Maxwell Cemetery in Bowdoinham. Richard L. Crocker
Chelsea-Richard L. Crocker, 58, of the Nelson Rd. died on Friday, May 7, 2010 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Augusta on December 3, 1951 the son of Melvin and Ella Crocker Sr.
Richard worked locally through out the years, most recently for Wal Mart. He also worked at one of his favorite places as a kitchen steward for the Samoset Resort in Rockport.
Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 205 in Augusta and the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Farmingdale for the past 20years. He was also a youth director for 10 years at the church.
He had over 300 hours of volunteer services at Togus. Richard collected and distributed toys for little ones program for over 10 years.
Richard was predeceased by his father Melvin C. Crocker Sr., brother’s Mevlin C. Crocker Jr., Robert L. Crocker, Terry Crocker and a sister Sherry Crocker. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Brenda McKenna Crocker of Chelsea, son Richard Crocker Jr., of Arkansas, daughter Amie Butler and her husband Jeff Riegol of Augusta, Step son Jeffrey Glazier and his wife Vanessa of Waterville, mother Ella Crocker of Mt. Vernon, sister Sandra Davidson of West Gardiner, brothers Eugene Crocker of New Jersey, Steven Crocker of Gardiner, Dennis Crocker of Louisiana, grandchildren Angela Butler, Suzanna Butler, Tallon Glazier, Matrim Glazier, several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will take place at the Farmingdale Seventh Day Adventist Church at 2 pm on Monday, May 10th with Pastor Farley officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Kennebec County honor guard. Following the service a gathering will take place at the church hall.

Jane Dudley Newhall
Brunswick-Jane Dudley Newhall died on April 29, 2010 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick after a short illness. She was born in Hanover NH on December 9,1935 the daughter of Helen Johnson Dudley and Robert Mills Dudley. She is survived by her daughter Janice Linehan and grandsons Benjamin and Eric of St. Louis and her son Fred Newhall and grandchildren Madeline and Garrett of Massachusetts. She is also survived by her sister Ann DeWitt of Friendship ME, her brother John Dudley of Bath ME and her brother William Dudley of St. Louis as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Newhall and her son Robert Newhall.
Jane attended school in Bowdoinham and graduated from Brunswick high school in 1954. She graduated from the University of Maine in 1958 and was married in 1958. Her degree in social work led to positions in California and Maine. After years as a homemaker, Jane taught Head Start children in Massachusetts and in the Augusta area.. In the years after her husband's death she lived in Sidney and in Topsham where she cared for her aging mother. The first Parish Church in Brunwick was the center of her life in her later years. Her church activities included working as a social service provider, a mentor to young people and a coordinator with Tedford Shelter and Outreach Committee chair. .Jane was a caring active person in all phases of her life.
A celebration of her life was held on May 1, 2010 at the First Parish Church in Brunswick ME.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund of the First Parish Church, Cleaveland St. Brunswick ME or to the Topsham Public library. An interment service will be held in the summer at the Sawtelle cemetery in Sidney ME.

MARSHALL MONROE WHITE
Randolph-Marshall Monroe White, 84, passed away on April 19, 2010, at the Parkview Hospital in Brunswick. He was born in Richmond, Me. July 22, 1925, and the son of the late Edward L. and Annabel K. White. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1941 and soon after attended school at West Quoddy Head, where he and classmates redesigned depth charge launchers for the US Navy. After this he returned to dairy farming on the Ridge Road in Bowdoinham, while working at Bath Iron Works. He married the love of his life Gertrude I. Curtis in 1945 and they shared 59 years together, before her passing in May 2004. In 1956 he went to work for the Dept. of Agriculture as a Produce Inspector and retired in 1985 as supervisor of the Bureau of Weights and Measurers. In 1960 the family moved from the farm to Richmond where Marshall served on the Board of Directors for the Sewer and Water District and the Planning Board for numerous years. He was president of the Boosters Club in Richmond as well as the Square Dance Club. After retiring from State employment he found retirement to be to boring so he took a part-time job driving a school bus for the Richmond School Dept., which lasted until he was 75. During those years he rarely missed an opportunity to drive the bus for athletic teams and he and Gertrude enjoyed watching both middle school and high school athletes play ball. He and Gertrude were also privileged to take the soccer team and coaches to Prince Edward Island, Canada to play summer soccer against several PEI teams on several occasions. Just before retirement he took up the hobby of amateur radio and progressed through the license classes and obtained his “extra” class license and call sign, NS1Q. A regular on the “88” repeater, he also served as an officer for the radio club and assisted in winter maintenance trips (by snowmobile) to the top of Streaked Mt. He was also a Past Master of Village Lodge #26 A.F.& A. M. of Bowdoinham, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Kora Temple Shrine.
He is survived by son, Kenneth and wife Susan of Mapleton, daughter Sharon Gotreau and husband Gerry of Randolph, grandchildren – Marshall White and wife Andrea of Ashland; Andrea McArthur and husband Mike of Palermo; Jeff Gotreau and wife Trish of Stetson; and Maryann Harakall and husband John of Augusta; and 3 great grandsons – Andrew, Alexander, and Isaac as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At Marshall’s request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Committal service will be held at the Ridge Cemetery April 24, 2010 at 1PM with gathering to follow at Marshall’s home in Randolph.

Benjamin D. MacMunn
Augusta-Benjamin D. MacMunn, 83, of Windsor, died on March 25, 2010 at Togus Veterans Hospital.
He was born on May 31, 1926 in Saugus, MA the son of Arthur and Hazel (Chute) MacMunn.
Benjamin proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
He worked for many years as a carpenter for Lynn Local 495 in Massachusetts, retiring in 1976.
Benjamin was a member of the Kerserage Odd Fellows 100F Past Grand Swamscott, Ma. He was also a member of the Mt. Olivette Masonic Lodge #203 in Washington, Me.
He enjoyed playing cribbage, card games, reading, watching TV, and camping to the South until 2004.
Benjamin is survived by his wife Margaret “Rita” MacMunn of Windsor, son’s Alan MacMunn and his wife Jeanette of Washington, Me., Steven MacMunn and wife Gail of Windsor, grandsons Christopher, Craig, James, Angelika, sister in law’s Marjorie O’Blenes of Salisbury, MA., Ann Higgins and husband Keith of Palermo, Orphia Urcquhart of Middleton, N.H., many nieces and nephews.

Kathi L. Poirier
Bowdoinham-Kathi L. Poirier, 61, of the Ridge Rd. Passed away on March 30, 2010 after a long illness at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1948 in Lewiston the daughter of Vernon and Molly (Rosendahl) Ruggles.
Kathi enjoyed collecting turtles, crafts, decorating, going to camp, reading, being a Girl Scout Leader, working with children, particularly special needs children and decorating the house for Christmas.
She sold Avon for many years, worked for the Times Record newspaper for twenty years and also a child care provider for many years.
Kathi was predeceased by her father Vernon Ruggles and son Stephen P. Poirier Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband Stephen P. Poirier Sr. of Bowdoinham, Son Michael Poirier of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, daughter Jennifer Allyn and her husband Christopher of Lisbon, mother Molly R. Ruggles of Brunswick, Grandsons Sebastian Allyn and Arthur Peck-Moad, and several cousins.

Augusta-Candy J. Spencer, 40, of Main St. in Richmond, died after a short illness on March 28, 2010 at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta.
She was born in Augusta on July 28, 1969 the daughter of Richard and Carolyn (Pinkham) Spencer.
Candy enjoyed dancing, camping and spending time with her friends.
She was predeceased by her father Richard Spencer. Candy is survived by her son Justin A. Spencer of Richmond, mother Carolyn Spencer of Richmond, sister Brenda Hammond of Lewiston, brother Richard I. Spencer of Richmond, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gretchen H. Little
Brunswick, Me-Gretchen H. Little, 80, of The Highlands, Topsham, ME and of Christmas Cove, South Bristol, ME, died peacefully March 18, 2010 with her family at her side. For 58 years, Gretchen was the beloved wife of George Patterson Little and wonderful mother to daughters Rebecca Hallowell and husband, Frank, of Hamilton, MA, Margaret Moremen of Athens, GA, and Amy Little and husband Steven Bernstein of New Paltz, NY. She was the cherished grandmother of Ian and Benjamin Moremen and Sarah Bernstein Little. Gretchen was born in Buffalo, NY, to Dunbar and Ruth Hausauer. She graduated from Buffalo Seminary and Wellesley College. For 43 years, Gretchen and George lived in Wayland, MA, where she was active in the First Parish Unitarian Church and the community. As a gallery instructor at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, she specialized in Asian art. An intelligent, warm, and wonderful woman, Gretchen’s life and spirit will be honored by family and friends this summer in Christmas Cove, ME, at a date to be announced.

Alvin D. Acord
Richmond-Alvin D. Acord, 74, of Tre Ln. died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 after a long illness at his residence.
He was born in West Virginia on 9/23/1935 the son of Wirt and Mary Lynn Acord.
Al was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed reading, gambling and spending time with his children.
Al proudly served his country in the United States Navy retiring in 1973. He later worked as a marine electrician at B.I.W. retiring in 1996.
He was predeceased by his wife Joyce, his parents and many brothers and sisters. Al is survived by his wife Barbara Acord of Richmond, children Michael Acord, Russell Acord, Timothy Acord, Stephen Acord, Christopher Acord, Rebecca Acord, Barbara Doucette, step children Jerry Gilbert, Phillip Gilbert and Kerri Jo Smith, 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Richmond-Weston P. Carver Jr., 71, of Boynton St. died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 after a long illness at Mid Coast Hospital , Brunswick.
He was born on June 4, 1938 the son of Weston and Mabel (Hinkley) Carver Sr.
Weston enjoyed hunting, smelt fishing, gardening, Sunday rides with his son Paul, and joking with his grandchildren.
Weston worked for Merrymeeting Gardens in Bowdoinham for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Margaret Rogers and brother Sherwood. Sheila Lynn "Bibby" Hallowell-Jackson
WATERVILLE -- Sheila Lynn "Bibby" Hallowell-Jackson, 36, of Augusta died Thursday, March 11, 2010, with her loving family and friends by her side at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville, after a long battle with illness. Sheila was born Aug. 27,1973, the daughter of Douglas A. Hallowell Sr. and Faith (Weston) Hallowell, at what is now Inland Hospital in Waterville.
She married Carl E. Jackson Jr. on June 18, 1995.
Sheila attended Cony High School and obtained her degree as a certified nursing assistant through the Cony adult education program. She worked for several years as a certified nursing assistant at Maine Veterans' Home on Cony Road in Augusta. Sheila then expanded her horizons and worked for several years as an assistant manager for DownEast Energy's Puffin Stop convenience stores in Augusta.
Sheila's fearless but humble approach to life will always be remembered. Sheila spent her whole life battling many life-threatening diseases and tragic experiences, which built in her a will for survival and never giving up that will forever be inspiring to all who knew and loved her. She loved the simple things in life: spending time with her loving husband, supporting him in demolition derbies all over central Maine, as well as embracing her tomboy and slinging mud in the pits with the boys. She spent her time at home watching her favorite ABC soap operas: "One Life to Live" and "General Hospital." It just wasn't Bib's without soaps on the television. She enjoyed spending time at Bingo with her parents and spending quality time with her sons and family.
Sheila Bibby Jackson will always be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Sheila would want us to send a special thank you to her favorite pizza shop, Whipper's Pizza, of Augusta: You always knew her by the order and she cherished the friendly service and friends she had there since childhood. Thanks for leaving your mark in her life.
Sheila was predeceased by her father, Douglas A. Hallowell Sr., on Oct. 4, 2004; her mother, Faith E. Hallowell, on April 16, 2007; her beloved husband, Carl E. Jackson Jr., on June 1, 2007; her father-in-law, Olan Noble, in 2006; and beloved family friend Marie R. Henderson, in August 2008.
She is survived by her two loving sons, Carl Douglas Jackson and Christopher Ross Jackson, of Augusta; sisters Cynthia Hallowell, Stephaine Hallowell and Alicia Hallowell-Hafford, of Augusta; brothers James Hallowell, Casey Hallowell and Matthew Hallowell, of Augusta; sisters-in-law Lisa Perry, of Augusta, Billie Jo Stonehawker and her husband, Jim, of Winslow, and Tracy and Glen Rowe, of Palermo; mother-in-law Joan Noble, of Waterville; nieces Heather, Brittney, Manda, Mandy, Lacie, Kaitlyn, Aarika and Christina; nephews Richard, Tyler, Justin and Donaven, all of central Maine; as well as many close and loving family friends and caregivers who have loved, cared and encouraged Sheila as family throughout her life, including the Hendersons, the Jacksons, Kelly Hackett, all the nurses and doctors at the Maine Kidney Center in Augusta and Waterville, and MaineGeneral Medical Center of Augusta and Waterville, and her beloved and cherished family at Mount St. Joesph's Nursing Home. Christopher J. “Chris” Glavine
Richmond-Chris Glavine passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn where his family had been with him throughout his time there.
Chris was born in Flemington, N. J., on August 6, 1962, the son of Polly and Jack Glavine.
Chris grew up in Hillsborough, N. J. where he received his education. He relocated to his beloved Maine in 1980 and married Gina Rand in 1988. He has made his home in Richmond for the past 20 years. He began his employment working with handicapped people, and it almost seemed that this was his calling, as he was so kind and tender with them. Early in his career here in Maine, he was an Accountant for Satterly Oil Co. in Portland. It soon became apparent to him that he really wanted to be outside, and not sitting at a desk. He began working as a carpenter’s helper. In a very short time, Chris (with his dog Timber by his side) started his own construction company, C.J. Glavine General Contracting. Thus began his lifetime career of home building which actually seemed to just come naturally to him. It will be one of the joys of all of his family to be able to drive by the beautiful homes that he built and to know that they will stand there to permanently testify as to his contribution to society and to life.
Chris was an avid fisherman, an avid birdwatcher who would call his parents home many times and say, “Get Mom on the phone”, when he would have a birding question he couldn’t answer. He loved his big, beautiful Gold Wing Motorcycle, and he had many, many wonderful trips on it with his wife. Chris enjoyed both collecting and selling antiques, cooking, snowmobiling, and looking for the planets and stars with his Telescope were also among his hobbies. And let us not forget that he was a huge Patriots fan.
He is survived by his wife, Gina, daughter, Serina, his parents, Polly & Jack Glavine of Naples, Maine, his brother, Jim and wife Sheila of Greenville, Maine, his nephews Josh Glavine and wife Kristin of Leominster, Massachusetts, and Patrick Glavine of Boulder, Colorado. Also his Aunts and Uncles and many cousins in Maine, Massachusetts. Virginia, Oregon and Mississippi.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Kincer Funeral Home from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday March 9th with a funeral service taking place on Wednesday at 11:00am at the funeral home. Light refreshments will follow the service.

Judith A. Koenig
Topsham, Maine - Judith A (Sym) Koenig of Alphonse Drive passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Bodwell House in Brunswick.
Judith was born October 6, 1939 in Maspeth, Queens N.Y, the daughter of John and Dorothy Sym.
She attended Jamaica Queens schools and graduated from Newtown High in 1957.
Following graduation she worked for Brown Bros Harrington Bank on Wall St in N.Y C. Later on she was employed for many years at the Hicksville L.I. library.
On June 28 1959 she married Robert W Koenig in Jamaica N.Y.
After living in Ozone Park, Floral Park (N), and Hicksville N Y, Judy and her husband, in 1999, retired to Topsham.
While enjoying retired life, Judy and her husband traveled the USA, cruised to Alaska, and toured London and Paris. She and her husband also did local auto club tours in their restored 1940 Packard.
Judy loved cooking and often experimented on the family.
Surviving are her husband Bob of Topsham, her sons Robbie of Brunswick, John and his wife Rebecca of Glen Cove NY, and Christopher and his wife Lisa of Glen Cove NY. Three grandsons Justin, Ryan and Evan, siblings sister Joan Hilton of Topsham, and brother Tom Sym of Nashua NH. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother John Sym.

Milton L. Lindholm
Milton L. Lindholm died at age 98 on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 in Brunswick, Maine. Until January, 2010, he had lived an active life with his wife at their home in Lewiston, Maine. Milton leaves a powerful legacy at Bates College and in Lewiston, his home for the past 65 years. For eight decades, he was associated with the College, as a student in the class of 1935, as Bates' first Dean of Admissions, and in his retirement as a beloved and honored figure at the college, officiating at athletic events, fund-raising for the Development Office, and serving in a variety of other capacities.
As Dean of Admissions for 32 years, Milton was known for his fairness and empathy, and for playing calculated hunches on young people. Many of those hunches went to great success in their lives after Bates and to lead lives of service. His interest in students went far beyond their admission to the College, keeping touch with them on campus, entertaining them in the Lindholm residence on Nelke Place, befriending and counseling them in their journeys beyond Bates.
He took the Bates Admissions Office from a staff of one (himself) to a modern office with a large staff, mentoring young men and women professionals along the way.
Milton was a hard worker, never demanding more of others than himself: he enjoyed the company of those with whom he worked and they returned his respect and affection. The Admissions Office at Bates is named the Lindholm House. The leading student-athletes at Bates are recognized with the Milton L. Lindholm Athlete-Scholar Award.
Perhaps Milton's best Bates achievement was his marriage to Jane Ault (class of 1937) whom he met there, married in 1938, and to whom he was married for 71 years. Theirs was a magnificent union, not just for its longevity, but because of their obvious delight in one another. Sixty-five of their years together were lived in Lewiston, a community to which they were both devoted. Milton served eight years on the Lewiston School Board in the 1970s and Jane was actively involved in various community charities and activities. Jane survives Milton and lives now at Thornton Hall in Brunswick.
Milton was of course more than his association with Bates College. He leaves behind, in addition to his wife, beloved family: his daughter Martha Lentz of Topsham, Maine, and his son Karl and his wife Brett Millier of Middlebury, Vermont. He was grandfather to Sara Lentz Perry and her husband Roger Perry of Georgetown, ME, to John Lentz and his partner Samantha Cook of Topsham, to Jane Lindholm and her husband Adrian Hicks of Charlotte, VT, to David Lindholm of Los Angeles, CA, and to Peter and Annie Lindholm of Middlebury. He was great-grandfather to Elijah and Isabella Jackson and Spencer Perry, all of Georgetown. Martha's husband, Jim Lentz, died in July, 2009.
Milton was born on June 3, 1911, in Collinsville CT, where his minister father, Lambert, had a church. He was only a year old when his father died at 43. Milton and his older siblings, Herbert and Constance, moved with their mother, Helen Isaacson, and her brother Charlie into a duplex on Cushing Street in Waltham Mass. Milton attended public schools in Waltham and was drawn to sports, becoming an outstanding football player, ultimately being inducted into the Waltham High Hall of Fame and also the Maine State Football Hall of Fame. He thrived as a student at Bates, becoming a campus leader, captain of the football team, and President of Student Council. He was a center in football, a crucial position in those days, and played on the Bates team that famously tied superpower Yale 0-0 in 1933.
He taught at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, for three years, coaching an undefeated team in 1937. He married Jane in 1938 on the grounds of the Ault family home in Wayne, Maine. The extended Ault family (Jane had eleven siblings) and "Uncle Lindy" became a favorite relation of the "Waynes." After selling books for six years for the World Book Company, Milton accepted the position of Director of Admissions for men at his alma mater in 1945. He and Jane and their two small children moved to Lewiston to a home next door to Jane's sister, Mary Finn, and her five children.
In his retirement, Milton loved to travel with Jane. They made multiple trips to Europe and Scandinavia, with France as a favorite destination. Each summer for forty years, they rented a cottage at Goose Rocks Beach in Southern Maine where family and friends happily congregated.
A service for Milton will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at the Bates College Chapel with off site overflow seating available. Following the service a reception will take place at the Alumni Gymnasium at Bates Collegeannounced at a later date. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Milton and Jane Lindholm Scholarship Fund.
Elmer A. Berquist
Topsham-Elmer A. Bergquist, 94, of Topsham died on February 25, 2010 at his home at 16 Bergquist Dr. in Topsham.
He was born on April 3, 1915 to Fritz Bergquist and Lucretia Watson.
Elmer was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodcarving, art, gardening, cooking and taking care of his dog, Bear.
Elmer retired from BIW where he worked as a pipe fitter; he also proudly served in the US Army in Okinawa during WWII.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marjorie (Thorne) Bergquist, sister Harriet Edgecomb and half-brother Jude Andrew Hyde.
Elmer is survived by 2 daughters – Dawna Bergquist; Patricia Melville & Son-in-law, Edward Melville 2 sons – Scott Bergquist; Reynold Bergquist & Daughter-in-law, Darlene Bergquist 6 Granddaughters 11 - Great grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.

Margarete Stotz
Bowdoinham-Having shared tender moments with her entire family, including the entertaining antics of her great-grandson, Callum, Margaret Stotz passed gently on Feb. 16, 2010 with both daughters holding her hands and her heart. She leaves behind in all of those she touched, sweet stories and inspirations around a life well-lived.
Margaret Melita Hoeltzell was born in St. Petersburg, Russia during the Bolshevik revolution, grew up in Latvia, moved to Germany where she met the love of her life, Ewald-Hughes Stotz and eventually immigrated to the United States. Hers is a story of living and working hard for the "better life" here in America.
Following the death of her son, Peter and husband, Margaret moved to Bowdoinham to live with her daughter, Evelyn Surette where she enjoyed gardening, knitting, a Saturday night beer with her Son-in-law, Marty and the comical antics of "Rocky", her beloved rescue dog.
Margaret leaves behind a daughter, Ursula Stotz-McFarland and her husband Eric of Harpswell, four grandchildren: Ian McFarland and wife, Aleisha of Natick, MA, Darren Stotz-McFarland of Harpswell, Tiffany Surette of Brunswick and Eric Stotz of California and one great-grandson, Callum of Natick. Before her death, Margaret was blessed with having spent time with her entire family and did enjoy her last glass of beer in celebration of her life.
The Stotz family are very grateful to the staff at CHANS and Bodwell for all of the tender care given to Margaret during her recent illness.
Candace C. Owen
BRUNSWICK — Candace Catlin (Benjamin) Owen, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at a Brunswick hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born in New York City on March 28, 1930, the daughter of William Wallace and Candace Woodruff Benjamin. She attended the Brearly School, Westover School, Mills College and graduated from Barnard College. Following graduation she worked for Time magazine as an editor trainee.
She married H. Martyn Owen and lived in Yokosuka, Japan, where her husband served in the U.S. Navy. Following her husband’s service, they moved to Simsbury, Conn., where she raised three children. During this time she also worked as a program writer for the Hartford (Conn.) Community Renewal Program, received her master’s degree at the University of Connecticut and served as the therapeutic recreation director at Church Home Inc.
In addition to her parenting and professional roles, she volunteered as a researcher for the Community Council of the Capitol Region and Child and Family Services in Hartford, and served on the boards of the Connecticut Halfway House, Armsmear House, the Westminster School in Simsbury and the Westover School in Middlebury, Conn.
She loved spending time in Maine where her family owned a house at Small Point in Phippsburg. She spent many summers with family and friends enjoying the coast. She especially enjoyed walks on the beach searching for the perfect sand dollar and doting over her grandchildren.
In 1996 the Owens relocated to Brunswick to be closer to the Mid-coast area they loved and made their permanent home at Thornton Oaks where she stayed involved in civic and educational matters. She served as a volunteer at the Respite program and at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Dorrance.
Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, H. Martyn Owen of Brunswick; their three children, Leslie of Olympia, Wash., Peter of Durham, and Douglas and his wife, Anne, of Denville, N.J.; as well as four nieces; six grandchildren; and five grandnieces.

James S. Pratt Jr.
Farmingdale-James S. Pratt Jr., 82, of the Litchfield Rd. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at his residence.
He was born in Bowdoinham on November 20, 1927 the son of James and Thelma (Batchelder) Pratt Sr.
Jim enjoyed farming, cutting wood and he always kept an immaculate garden. He was a 50 year member of the Knights of Pythias in Bowdoinham.
Jim bought his own dump truck and started working for the State of Maine in 1949. He also worked for BIW as a pipefitter for many years and Port City Auctions in Richmond.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, brothers Charley, Clyde, Burleigh Pratt and a sister Bessie Bingham. He is survived by his wife Mona Pratt of Farmingdale, son’s Darrel Pratt of Florida, Brent Pratt of Warren, Craig Pratt of Dresden, Mike Pratt of Florida, brother’s Daryl Pratt of Durham, Philip Pratt of South Monmouth, sisters Lois Heath of Topsham, Ruby Irish of Litchfield, step children Edward Keefer of Palermo, Terri Weeks, Steven Keefer and David Keefer all of Farmingdale, 3 grandchildren and one great grandson.
A graveside service will take place in the spring at the Bay view Cemetery in Bowdoinham in the spring.

Harpswell – Lynda L. Ring, 64, of Allen Pt Rd, died on Sunday the 31st of January, 2010 after a long battle with Cancer. She was at home with her family at the time when she went home to the Lord. Alfred Pinette
Arrowsic -Alfred J. Pinette, 84 of Old Stage Road died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, with his family by his side.
He was born in Topsham on Nov. 10, 1925, a son of the late Alphonse and Cecile Beauregard Pinette. He was one of 11 children.
He served in the U.S. Army. On Jan. 24th he celebrated his 57th wedding anniversary with his wife, Gloris (Pertell).
He was a Maine Guide for 28 years. His life time work included years at BIW, Carpentry, Lobsterman as well as a School Bus driver, and spent many hours helping out at Bissons Farm in Topsham. He was the last known person with a skill for straightening aluminum and was hired late in life, age 76, by the Washburn and Doughty Boat Yard to teach his skill to their apprentices.
For 6 years he enjoyed his home in Greenville, known as the 'Mayor of Kelly's Landing'. He was known for his great sense of humor and boasted about catching every fish in Moosehead Lake TWICE. He loved carving and making jewelry out of bear claws and deer antlers. He loved hunting, fishing and camping trips which he passed on his knowledge of the woods and wildlife. Known for cooking the Sunday dinners. He adored all children and was known for his special 'ducky' song he would sing to them while in his rocking chair.
He was a member of the Phippsburg Sportsman's Club and was a MOFGA member for years and a participant of the Common Ground Fair since 1978.
Surviving besides his wife of 57 years, Gloris, are one daughter, Phyllis Coombs and her husband , Walter, of Brunswick and four sons, Leo Pinette and his wife Dolores, of Georgetown, Anthony Pinette of Arrowsic, Jeffrey Pinette and partner Jennifer of Boothbay, James Pinette and wife Becky of Arrowsic; two sons from a previous marriage, Mark and Fred Peterson of N.C.; eleven grandchildren, Jason Coombs of Brunswick, Tracie & Dale Pinette of Georgetown, Michael Pinette of Bath, Craig Pinette of Arrowsic, Shannon and Aimee Pinette of Topsham, Jeffrey Pope of Augusta, Megan, Gabriel and Dianna Rose of Boothbay and nine great-grand children;
two brothers, Francais Pinette and wife, Patricia of Durham and Edgewater, Fla. and Roland Pinette and his wife, Ursula, of Bowdoinham; three sisters, Lucy Begley of Lewiston, Jeanne Williams of Silverhill, Ala., and Jacqueline Sargent and her husband, George, of Mattawamkeag; a sister-in-law, Louise Pinette St.Pierre of Topsham, Sister in law Lena Pinette of Topsham: and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers Philip, Felix and Louis; and two sister, Rita Doucette and Claire Ducharme.
A celebration of life will be held 12 - 4, Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Georgetown Community Center. A graveside service will be held in the spring.

Bowdoin-Savina T. Sliker, 83, of Valley Dr. died on Thursday, January 27, 2010 at Mid Coast Senior Health in Brunswick.
She was born in Albany, New York on September 18, 1926 the daughter of Burr and Theresa (Miller) Osbonlighter.
Savina was predeceased by her parents and a brother Burr Osbonlighter. She is survived by her beloved husband Frank Sliker, son’s Michael Sano, Richard Sano, Paul Sliker, Kris Sliker, daughters Linda Johnsen, Kathleen Vigue, sister Georgianna Plummer, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, her dogs Dolly and Zoe.

Augusta- Andrea Teresa Sargent, 66, died on 1/23/2010 at Grey Birch Rehab & Nursing Care after a brief battle with Cancer.

She retired from Central Maine Power & part time contractor.

Roscoe Slattery
LITCHFIELD - Roscoe “Red” Daniel Slattery, 75, of Litchfield died peacefully on January 24, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Roscoe was born November 7, 1934 at home in Wales to Edward David and Winnifred (Maxwell) Slattery. On September 3, 1954, Roscoe married Esther MacWhinnie, the daughter of Charles Doyle and Ruby May (Hinkley) MacWhinnie of Litchfield, where they have made their home for 55 years. He raised his family in Litchfield and enjoyed spending time with his extended family.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Esther; his three sons, Brian R. Slattery of Hampton, NH, Kevin C. Slattery and wife Holly of Rochester, NH, and Shawn E. Slattery and wife Paula of Nottingham, NH; four grandchildren, Sgt. Jason Slattery (USMC) of Valparaiso, FL, Justin Slattery of Rochester, NH, Brendan and Connor Slattery of Max, ND; three brothers, Carl Slattery and his wife Florence of Litchfield, Joseph Slattery and his wife Virginia of Lewiston, Orman Gayton of North Belgrade, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Clifton Thomas, and his sisters Edna Dixon and June Danforth.
Roscoe participated in many volunteer organizations, where he held many leadership positions. He was a 54 year member of the Litchfield Farmers Club, including director; an active member of the Litchfield Sportsmen's Club, including president; a member of the Litchfield Snowmobile Club, including president; and a 55 year member of the Bowdoinham Lodge Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed telling jokes, sports, bowling, dancing, socializing, camping, snowmobiling, yard work, and playing cards.
Roscoe served eight years in the US Army reserves and was employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking Company for 35 years before retiring in 1993. After retirement, he volunteered time at the Litchfield Community Food Bank and worked Bingo at the Litchfield Sportsmen's Club.
Roscoe was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. His work ethic, integrity, dedication, and family values were endearing qualities. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. He will be tremendously missed by his family and his loving memories will be carried on in their hearts forever.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 27th at the Kincer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28th at Kincer Funeral Home with a gathering to follow at the Litchfield Sportsmen's Club.

Austin F. Brown
South Gardiner-Austin F. Brown Sr., 75, of Cannard St. passed away on January 18, 2010 after a long illness at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Mexico, Maine the son of Alfred and Nona (Fogg) Brown and attended local schools. Austin moved to Richmond in 1942.
Austin loved his dogs, gardening, attending his church in Hallowell and especially time spent with his grandson.
Austin worked as a foreman at Etonic Shoe in Richmond for many years. He was also employed by Hannaford’s in Augusta and Crowe Rope for many years.
He was predeceased by parents, sister’s Shirley Hurley, Sylvia Ladd, Madge Libby, brother Clyde Brown, babies Beatrice, Clyde, Geneva and Sylvia Brown.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Brown of South Gardiner, Ronald Brown of Virginia, Robert Brown and wife Coralee of Gardiner, Austin Brown Jr., of Hallowell, brothers Donald, Neal, Darryl, Gerald, sisters Arlene and Norma, one grandson Sullivan Brown of Vermont, several nieces, nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 3pm on Saturday, January 23rd, with a funeral to follow at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring.

Verna White Anderson
Richmond - Verna White Anderson, 93, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Hawthorne House in Freeport.
She was born in Durham May 9, 1916 the daughter of Charles James White and Clara Jane Holmes White. She graduated with honors from Brunswick High School.
On June 11, 1937 she married Walter L. Anderson of Richmond. He died July 11, 1988.
Mrs. Anderson worked for the Maine State Treasury Department in Augusta, retiring in 1977.
After retirement she spent several winters in Myrtle Beach, SC with her husband. She also enjoyed her camp on Lower Narrows Pond in Winthrop in earlier years.
She attended Westport Baptist Church on Westport Island.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Anderson of Dallas, Texas; Jane Grover of Topsham; Martha Tribbet and husband Bing of Richmond; son Frank Anderson and wife Marian of Boothbay; grandchildren Richard Grover, Cynthia Hoyt, Jennifer Ridenour, Jeffrey Tribbet, Frank Anderson, Jr., Shanna McNeil, Rachel Nichols and 12 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her husband, Walter of 51 years; six sisters and two brothers; Margery Walker, Josiah White, William White, Mabel Goodwin, Lottie Young, Beulah Coffin, Clara Keenan and Velma Dixon.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 7th at 2pm at Kincer Funeral Home 130 Pleasant St. Richmond. Burial will take place in the spring.
