Karzymierz Charlie Church

PORTLAND – Karzymierz “Charlie” Church, 86, embarked on “Eternal Patrol” March 26, 2012, at Togus Veteran’s Hospital, Augusta, ME. He was born March 21, 1927, in Hope Valley, R.I., the son of Kenneth and Mary (Bosica) Church.

Charlie attended schools in Hopkinton, R.I. and worked at Walsh Shipyard in Providence, RI. He joined the U. S. Navy and served in both WWII, spending part of his enlistment in occupied Japan and in the Korean War. When he mustered out he moved to Portland, ME, married Rita C. Legasse, the love of his life and with whom they raised a son Ronald. He began a career as a long haul trucker and logged over one million miles on U. S. and Canadian highways. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, baseball, hunting and fishing with his cousins Donald C. Church and Roland Church.

Charlie is survived by his sister Gladys Ponichtera and, Cousin Beverly Church, daughter in-law, Donna Q. Church, granddaughters Jennifer C. Waitkun and Jonica L. Church, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Charlie was predeceased by his wife Rita C. Church, sisters Anna M. Johnson and Gloria Abruzzese, son Ronald C. Church, cousins Donald C. Church and Roland Church.

A graveside burial with military honors will be in the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery on Civic Center Drive, Augusta, Maine at on May 17, 2013 time to be announced. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at http://kincerfuneralhome.com/html/condolences.html
