Gertrude "Gertie" Hanson

Gertie Hanson picGertrude (Gertie) Hanson, 69, of Richmond and Bowdoin, ME passed away on March 15th, 2018 at CMMC in Lewiston surrounded by the ones she loved. Gertie was born on December 14th, 1948 in Gardiner to Rowland Hanson and Marion Hinkley-Hanson of Richmond.

From a young age, Gertie worked as a shoe cutter at local shoe factories, including Etonic, and Eastland Shoe. Gertie worked various other factory jobs throughout her life, and retired from Village Candle in 2010

She was an avid baker and enjoyed the joy her goodies brought to her family and friends. Gertie often made homemade crafts for friends and family. She loved working in her gardens in the spring and summer, planting flowers and veggies. Gertie loved being surrounded by family and friends, never missing an opportunity to attend a gathering, or to spend time with those she loved.

Gertrude was predeceased by her parents; sister, Faye Howard; brother, Rowland Hanson; brother, Gary Hanson; and twin sisters, Bonnie Dean and Barbra Jean Hanson.

She is survived by her daughter, Billie and son-in-law Mark Fortune; her grandson, Raymond; her life partner, Paul Bernier and his family; her sister, Donna Colby; nephews, Stanley and his wife Paula Colby, and Thomas Colby; and a niece Faylene.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Rausch, and the entire oncology team at CMMC for everything they have done. Gertie loved you all as dearly as we do.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St. Richmond, Maine. Family and friends are welcome to gather starting at 10am to share memories, reminisce and visit. A celebration of life will begin at 11am. A reception will follow at the Grange Hall in Richmond.
