Bowdoinham-Gordon "Smitty" Smith, 85, of South Pleasant St., passed away on May 18, 2026 at his home.

He was born on March 21, 1941 in Lewiston, the son of Gerald and Pauline Smith.

Smitty enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served until 1965. He worked for the Army Security Agency in Germany.  

Smitty went on to become a well known tax accountant, owning "Smith's Tax Service" in the Lisbon Falls and Richmond area from 1970 until 2017.

He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, friends and especially his family.

Smitty was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, with 45 years of continuous sobriety.  It's been said that "he was the power of example to many."

Smitty was predeceased by his parents, and previous spouse Arlene

Smith.  He is survived by his wife Lois Smith of Bowdoinham, daughters Jennifer Ecker and Amanda Bobbe, both of Westbrook, Charlotte Cunningham of Florida, Christine Cunningham of Montana, sister Kathleen Jillson and husband George, grandsons Rory Ecker and Miles Bobbe of California, Owen Bobbe of Bath, and nieces Beth Calhoun of Oxford and Becca Sells of Pennsylvania.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, May 23rd from 2 to 4pm, with a time of sharing at 3:30 pm, all taking place at the funeral home.

In Smitty's memory donations may be made to the MS Society or the Maine Council of Trout Unlimited.
