David M. Smith, 79, of Chelsea, Maine, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, with his family by his side.

David was born in Gardiner, Maine, on August 11, 1946, to Isaac and Maxine (Roderick) Smith.

David enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished visits with friends and loved ones. He loved hunting, dancing, and gambling, whether it was playing scratch tickets, attending bingo games, or visiting casinos with his brother Tommy and daughter Billie-Jo. He was also known for enjoying a sweet treat while watching the birds gather at his feeders.

Those who knew David would describe him as hardworking, funny, and easygoing. He always had a smile on his face and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance with a project, repair, or building task.

Throughout his career, David worked in construction as a member of Local Union 327 and was employed by Sergeants. Following his retirement from construction, he continued working as a handyman at Skills in Waterville.

David was predeceased by his devoted partner, Shirley Stevens; his parents, Isaac and Maxine Smith; his brothers, Timmy, Tommy, Stanley, and Danny Smith; and his sisters, Diane and Francis.

He is survived by his daughter, Billie-Jo Smith (Peter); his son, Mike Smith (Carolee); his grandchildren, Asia Phelps, Ashlynn Smith, Alex Bittues, and Raistlin Bryant; his great-grandchildren, Emmalyn Phelps, Alden Phelps, Asher Bittues, and Violet Bittues; and his sister, Joan O'Ben.

At David's request, there will be no funeral services. A graveside service will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery in Windsor on June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

David will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and the love he shared with family and friends.
