Lucie Ursule (Brillant) Jean age 96 passed away peacefully in her home alongside her children Annette, Mark and Mary and daughter-in-law Donna. She was raised in the heights section of Topsham, Maine. She is the 11th of 15 children born to Willie and Marion (Bois) Brillant.
Lucie lived a life in which she experienced an amazing amount of world changes. She was born during the great depression. Her paternal grandfather passed at this time and her father tore up the book that had who and how much was owed to the grandfather's store. Her mother was known to give away bags of vegetables from their garden to those in need and provided bagged meals to "hobos" who came off the trains that ran past their home.
Lucie along with her husband Frank continued to help those they saw in need over the years. She talked all her life about the importance of "doing good deeds." She also made sure kids had candy in her home (like Pepere, her father) and those her daughter worked with in her office.
She often recalled what it was like for herself and family living in the 30s, 40s and 50s and working in the mills in the area, having no phone, seeing her mom have one of the first refrigerators, getting a phone, getting a car and making cookies to send her brothers who were in the services during WWIl: from the Navy in the Pacific, to DC with Eisenhower to France. And of course, so many siblings working to help the cause here at home. She loved all her siblings and loved to talk about them to her children.
She herself worked at the local hospital owned and ran by Dr. Dion for whom she had nothing but good things to say about as she witnessed his good works over the years.
She married in 1955 and raised her family in Somerville, MA. the home of her husband. A country girl goes to the city. She enjoyed her time there and the many summers spent in Topsham or the family cabin in Harpswell. She returned to Maine in 1978 where she lived in Litchfield on Pleasant Pond. She spent much time with her family later in life enjoying time with them whether at home playing cards and parchesi or Bingo at the Evergreens. She is predeceased by all except brother Bob Brillant of Topsham and Maria(Margaret) Jean of Burlington, MA.
She leaves daughter Annette Jean and wife Peggy Shopp of Crystal River Florida, son Mark Jean and wife Donna of Litchfield, ME. and great-grandson Connor., daughter Mary Jean-Byk of Litchfield, ME., granddaughter Melissa Parr and husband Bill of Woolwich, ME with great grandchildren Tyler and Hazel and grandson Drew Byk of Lompac, CA(VSFB).
